Growers have long faced the challenge of relying on broad weather forecasts that do not capture the specifics of their fields — a gap that can lead to costly missteps in crop management.
Now, a ground-breaking $1.3 million partnership between Hort Innovation Frontiers and startup Jane’s Weather is set to change that, combining artificial intelligence and machine learning with traditional weather data to deliver hyper-local forecasts tailored to each farm’s unique conditions.
Through this initiative, growers will gain access to pinpointed forecasts that factor in their exact terrain and operational needs, empowering them to make informed decisions on critical areas like irrigation, frost protection, and pest control.
With Jane’s Weather CEO and meteorologist Jane Bunn at the helm, the platform will leverage AI to reduce errors inherent in standard models, relying on data gathered directly from the field. “Traditional forecasts fall short for most production sites due to their distance from weather stations,” Jane said. “By learning from the local data, we can provide growers with accuracy and actionable insights that truly matter.”
